Based on the Golf GTE but with a totally different look and feel, the Mazda3‑sized, Spanish‑made Leon VZe combines an electric motor and a small turbo‑petrol engine for limited pure‑EV driving around town, or stirring performance out on the open road. But it's expensive and ergonomically flawed.
