Cupra Australia has announced a new special edition for its most popular model, the Cupra Formentor, before its previous Rojo Edition has even sold out.
Based on the top-spec Formentor VZx, the new limited edition is a 100-unit run called the Cupra Formentor VZx Matrix Edition, which starts from $65,490 before on-road costs or $70,490 drive-away.
This is slightly less than the $66,490 Rojo Edition, but a little more than the standard VZx’s $63,990 starting price, both before on-road costs.
The main draw of the Matrix Edition is its LED matrix headlights, which have been programmed to be able to turn off part of the beam if being approached by oncoming traffic, avoiding blinding or dazzling a driver while still maintaining high-beam elsewhere in front of the Formentor.
It also comes with the same black leather interior upholstery as the Rojo Edition, a feature unavailable in standard Formentor variants, and a unique 19-inch alloy wheel design.
The only options available are a choice of premium metallic or matte paint, and a panoramic sunroof.
Cupra Australia Head of Product Planning Jeff Schafer says the Formentor and the brand’s special editions have been very well received, prompting this new edition.

“Cupra isn’t mainstream, we’re not trying to be premium. We’re uniquely focused on design and performance and our customers love that.”
The 100 units of the Cupra Formentor VZx Matrix Edition are on sale from today.
