Honda has seriously stretched the new-gen CR-V over the old one to make room for another mid-size SUV - the ZR-V - in its line-up.

There are seven grades with a mix of front and all-wheel drive, petrol and hybrid and five and seven-seat model grades.

Of the two all-wheel drive (AWD) grades, the VTi LX AWD is the priciest, costing more than $5000 more than the VTi L AWD. Both of these AWD grades are five-seaters.

All CR-Vs except the flagship e:HEV RS hybrid are powered by Honda’s 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 140kW/240Nm and paired with a CVT.

Of the pure petrol grades, the VTi LX AWD has the most standard gear, and it gains height-adjustable LED headlights, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster (up from 7.0 inches in other grades), front ambient lighting, a Bose 12-speaker audio system, and 19-inch alloys over the model below it.

It also comes with a 9.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, power-adjustable driver's seat, drive-mode selector, wireless smartphone charger, a hands-free power tailgate with a walkaway close function, leather-appointed seats, and an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat.

All CR-V grades come with a healthy standard safety features list, with the Honda Sensing active safety suite including auto emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, and active cruise control with low-speed follow, while traffic jam assist and traffic sign recognition are new to the suite.
